How to Write a Computer Programmer Resume:
A complete guide that highlights the steps you need to take to build a professional computer programmer resume.
Provide contact information.
Focus on your current contact information.
Add your current contact information, including a professional email address, telephone number, physical address and, if applicable, a website and/or LinkedIn profile link. Be sure to start this section with your full name and job title.
Write a summary.
Briefly highlight your best attributes.
Your summary should be a concise and inspirational paragraph that highlights your best attributes and what makes you the best-suited candidate. In just two to three sentences, write about your greatest accomplishments, background in programming, and any interesting facts about you that relate to the role.
List your technical skills.
List your expertise in bullet point format.
Evaluate the required skills listed in the job description to identify the expertise screeners will want to read about first. Then, list your expertise in bullet point format and focus on those you are the best skilled at. Commonly required skills include analytical and organizational skills, the ability to quickly learn new technology, and superior communication skills.
Write about your professional experience.
Focus on your computer programming work history.
Focus on the jobs that relate to computer programming, as well as those that required transferable skills relevant to programming. List your experience in reverse chronological order, and include the dates of employment, location, and business name. To help your resume stand out, be sure to mention your experience working with Java, C++, SQL, C#, and HTML.
List your qualifications.
List your qualifications in reverse chronological order.
Your qualifications should be listed in reverse chronological order with the date of attendance, location, and full course name. Candidates that are still in the process of studying should omit the dates and replace them with "in progress." A computer programmer is typically required to possess a bachelor's degree in computer programming or computer science.
Include additional certificates.
Focus on certificates in the field of computer programming.
Have you completed additional training courses? If so, add this to your resume to show screeners and employers that you're always open to learning more and developing your skills. There are a variety of two to six-month courses available that focus on programming, coding, and SQL.
Add your career milestones.
Include your biggest accomplishments.
Write about your greatest accomplishments, which could include being asked to lead a groundbreaking project, winning a prestigious award, or receiving a promotion in a highly competitive market. Employers will use this information to gauge the extent of your talents and how much workload you're able to handle.
