How to Write a Senior Financial Analyst Resume:
Follow our comprehensive guide to writing a professional senior financial analyst resume.
Create clear sections.
Write a resume header.
In your header, write your full name and title, followed by your contact details. If you have a LinkedIn account or a personal website, include this in the section containing your contact information.
Write a compelling professional summary.
The professional summary should be a short but insightful paragraph that essentially tells the reader what makes you the perfect candidate for the job. It should include your level of education, experience as a Financial Analyst, and professional skills and expertise.
Refer to the job description to narrow down which of your skills and achievements to mention. Sought after skills include exceptional analytical and interpersonal skills along with strong business acumen.
Cite one or two cases in which you created insightful analyses and made recommendations that ultimately improved business performance. Include metrics to illustrate the impact of your work.
List your competencies.
List your competencies starting with those matching the core requirements of the position you are applying for. If a job posting specifies that candidates should have a strong understanding of different costing methods, specifically mention your knowledge of costing methods.
Always be specific when listing your financial knowledge to convey the true extent of your capabilities. Instead of "a strong understanding of finance," write "financial modeling," "financial reporting," "forecasting," etc.
Don't forget to include the specific software tools you work with and other relevant skills, such as strong communication, interpersonal skills, and presentation skills, being highly analytical and a strategic thinker, and the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.
Add your professional experience.
List your professional work experience in reverse chronological order. Begin with the company name and the job title you held followed by the place and dates of your employment. Then add the key functions you performed.
Senior financial analysts are expected to have several years of experience in financial planning, modeling, and analysis. Highlight the skills and expertise you applied to perform your duties and note how you helped the business achieve its financial and performance objectives.
Add your education.
In the education section of your resume, list your highest qualification first along with the name of the educational institution you attended and the dates of attendance. If you are currently studying, add "in progress" ahead of the dates. You should at least have a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business, or economics.
List your certifications.
Add any certifications you have obtained throughout your career. Many employers prefer candidates with a CPA and demand high proficiency in financial and accounting software tools. Having financial or related software certifications, such as SAP, Oracle, or MS Excel, is advantageous.
Describe your most notable achievements.
Add your most impressive accomplishments as a senior financial analyst. Be specific when describing your efforts, for example, how financial models you created informed critical business decisions or how your recommendations based on a root cause analysis allowed the business to improve productivity by a certain percentage.
